How is the Library Funded?
Sun City Library depends on monies from several sources: bequests from estates, fundraising events, donations, library card sales, used book sales and fines and fees.

Do my taxes support the Library?
Sun City Library, Inc. is a non-profit tax exempt 501(c)(3) corporation. The library receives no tax support and relies solely on the generosity of Sun City residents and various fundraising strategies. Donations of money and goods are tax deductible. Please remember the library when planning your wills and estates.

How do I get a Library Card?
Sun City residents may purchase a Library Card for $20 at the library. Non-residents may purchase a card for $30. The Library Card is valid for one year from date of purchase and may NOT be shared. Each person must purchase an individual card. The card may be used at both the Bell Branch and the Fairway Branch.

What are the lending periods and fines?
Books may be checked out for 3 weeks. The fine for overdue items is $.20 per day.
Rental books may be checked out for 2 weeks. The fine for overdue items is $.25 per day.
Books on tape and CD may be checked out for 1 week. The fine for overdue items is $.20 per day.
Music CDs may be checked out for 1 week. The fine for overdue items is $.20 per day.
Videos and DVDs may be checked out for 3 days. The fine for overdue items is $1.00 per day.
Magazines may be checked out for 2 weeks. The fine for overdue items is $.20 per day.
Some paperbacks and puzzles are checked out on the honor system.


May I renew items I have checked out?
Yes, items may be renewed. You must renew the items in person. Unfortunately, we cannot renew anything over the phone. Books and audiovisual material may all be renewed once unless the item is reserved for another patron. Magazines are not renewable.

How many items may I check out at one time?
You may check out an unlimited number of books and paperbacks. Rental books, videos, and DVDs are limited to two items. Books on tape and CD, and music CDs are limited to four items. Magazines are limited to five items, two with the same title.

May I return checked out items to either the Bell or Fairway Library?
You may return books checked out from Bell or Fairway to either branch. Audiovisual materials (DVDs, videos, books on tape, etc.) must be returned to the branch from which they were checked out. Books are transferred regularly from each branch to their proper location.

What other fees do you charge?
Rental books are $.50 each per lending period
Reservation requests are $.25 each
Interlibrary loans are by donation
Copies are $.10 each


Does the Library support any activities?
Yes, a monthly calendar of events is available at Bell and Fairway branches and on this Website.

What is the ongoing book sale?
Books and audiovisual materials that are not placed in the collection are sold to raise money for various projects. There is a large selection of reasonably priced books and other materials, which changes daily. The Sun City Library welcomes donations of clean materials in good condition which help keep the sale going.

Is there computer access at the library?
The Bell Branch has five public access computers and Fairway Branch has two. Library cardholders may use the computers for free. Nonmembers may buy time on the computer for $5. Printing is available and costs $.10 per page for black and $.25 for color. A typewriter is also available at the Bell Branch.

How can I help?
Sun City Library volunteers provide many of the patron services. We invite you to become a volunteer. Donations of money and materials are always welcome. We also welcome your comments and suggestions. We are always striving to improve your library.
